The Kennel is a home sweet home, 0 zero cage environment!
Our kennel is built onto our home, all I have to do is open my back door & I am inside of it! It shares a wall with our bedroom and hall, and I can look out the living room and bedroom windows and see into the fenced yard. The kennel is essentially just an extension of our home & we made it "home like" rather than like a typical kennel. Our kennel has a dog door which leads into a large fenced yard, 3 windows, three lights, an attatched grooming area, heavilly insulated and heated to keep our dogs warm throughout our long NY winters. Here are some photos of our kennel. I think it is extrememly important to know exactly where your puppy comes from and how the parents are being cared for.
The Exterior /Yard
(This pic was taken from inside of my living room. Sorry for the raindrops on the window.)
This is the main fence. It is 32' x 32' and 5.5' high. (half foot under the ground plus cement.) The gait also has latches on both the top and bottom. This fence is located in our front yard. The dogs have free access to this fenced yard through their doggy door. We also have a small fence (8'x16') for pregnant/nursing mothers and their puppies, located off of our dining room on the back side of the house.
The Kennel Interior
The kennel has two doors. This is the entry to the kennel from inside of our house. Come on in...
This is the view as you walk into the kennel. This area you would be standing on is what I call "the ramp".
If you were still standing up on the ramp, this a view to the left.
And this is the view looking forward and to the right. Notice there are 3 windows. They provide good ventillation and let lots of sunshine. I have the dog door cover just sitting in the window so it's closeby when I need to close the dog door. The metal flashing along the wall helps protect the wood paneling for moisture and dirt, as it easilly wipes clean and won't absorb any odors either.
Here is the dogs area...it's very hard to fit it all in a photo, as it is nearly 20' long. Notice the dog door in the corner. Also make note that the food/water dishes are elevated, which is healthier for the dogs and helps keep the dishes cleaner. Lots of toys... I see a plush soccer ball, a big knuckle bone and part of a plush Mickey Mouse on the floor. The floor is cement. Every day I sweep up the sawdust off the floor and apply a fresh, thin layer. I use a really soft, absorbant, low-dust type that is manufactured in MA. That's Katie, she just ran in through the dog door, as you can see by her ear flying, she is moving at a pretty good speed!
This is where Am-Erica's cockers are groomed. My grooming table has 4 large drawers inside of it that provide plenty of storage for my grooming items. The two mirrors help me see how the dog looks stacked (show stance). I also have a professional Metro air force 4 horse power blow dryer that is stored under the table. That is the hose to it you see along side of the wall.
Just another view of my grooming area.
My beautiful ribbons that hang in my grooming area. (Best Puppy In Breed, Best Puppy In Show & Best Puppy In Group)
The wall opposite my grooming table, and there you see the second door to our kennel. I love displaying all of my show photos on the walls in the kennel.
This is the view as your walking in from the second door in the kennel, facing the ramp that leads to the house door. The wall that attatches to the ramp wall is actually a gate! The grooming area is directly to the right.
-Hope you enjoyed your visit to our kennel! Remember, puppies are born and raised in my dining room and have their own seperate fence for when they begin potty training.-
